The One Movie Jason Momoa Refused to Watch—For His Son’s Sake

Jason Momoa, known for his roles in Aquaman and Dune, has always been open about his love for family and the protective instincts he has as a father. However, when it came to watching his own performance in the 2021 film Dune, Momoa chose not to watch it in theaters. The reason? He was concerned about how his son, Nakoa-Wolf, would react to the intense and violent scenes in which he appeared.

In an interview with Men’s Health, Momoa explained that his son, who is particularly sensitive to violence on screen, becomes distressed watching such scenes, even when he’s sitting right beside him. “My son just loses it… ‘Papa, are you okay?’ And I’m like, ‘Son, I’m sitting right next to you. We’re good. This was two years ago. Just watch the movie,’” Momoa shared, describing the difficulty his son experiences when witnessing his father in action-packed moments.

For this reason, Momoa decided to hold off on seeing Dune in theaters. Instead, he chose to experience the film in the comfort of his own home with his family, where he could support his son through the scenes that might be too intense for him.

Momoa lives with his wife, Lisa Bonet, their 11-year-old son, Nakoa-Wolf, and their 13-year-old daughter, Lola. While his son’s reactions to his father’s intense roles might be tough, it’s clear that family remains a top priority for Momoa, and he’s more than willing to adjust his movie-watching habits to make sure his children feel comfortable and secure.

By opting to watch Dune at home, Jason Momoa demonstrated a deeply personal side to his fatherhood, choosing to put his family’s emotional well-being first, even when it comes to his own celebrated career in Hollywood.
