Jason Momoa’s Craft Vodka Is Unlike Anything I’ve Tasted—Here’s Why

OPINION: This article may contain commentary which reflects the author's opinion.

When I was invited on a bar crawl with Jason Momoa to launch his craft vodka, Meili, I didn’t just accept — I practically flipped my keyboard over in excitement. After all, how often does one get the chance to hang out with one of Hollywood’s most effortlessly cool stars?

Let’s be real — Jason is the embodiment of cool. I’ve met some serious heartthrobs in my time (Idris Elba, anyone?), but there’s something about Jason that makes him stand out. He’s the kind of guy who can pull off a waistcoat with a tank top and somehow make it look like high fashion, while I, on the other hand, once tried the look and ended up resembling someone who got dressed in the dark. Ah, the early noughties.

But I digress — the real question on my mind was: Would I like his vodka? After all, I had my reputation to think about. When I gave my honest feedback on Dolly Parton’s wine range in a Metro taste test, I couldn’t help but call it out as poorly made, even though I’m a huge Dolly fan. But now, I was facing the potential dilemma of dissing Aquaman’s vodka. And let’s face it, no one wants to feud with a guy who can literally control the oceans.

Fortunately, I needn’t have worried.

Jason’s vodka — Meili Vodka, pronounced “may-lee” — turned out to be surprisingly good. But let’s go deeper. The vodka’s charm didn’t just lie in its taste, it was in the passion behind it. Jason and his business partner, Blaine Halvorson, are the real deal. Blaine, who is also a designer (and undeniably cool to look at), shared how they spent nine years researching the perfect water for their vodka. Yes, you read that right — water.

Meili Vodka’s purity comes from an unlikely source: a 300 million-year-old aquifer in Montana. I had no idea what an aquifer was before this trip, but Blaine explained it as an ancient underground river. And this is no regular water — it’s so pure that they don’t even need to filter it, which, trust me, is as impressive as it sounds. The duo’s obsession with water quality makes sense considering that vodka is 60% water, and if you want a top-tier drink, you need top-tier ingredients.

What’s even cooler is that the vodka is crafted to be so naturally pure that you can sip it neat, chilled, on the rocks, or even warm — just like a fine whiskey, tequila, or cognac. That’s the kind of sophistication you wouldn’t expect from a bottle of vodka, but Jason and Blaine pulled it off. It wasn’t about just making a good vodka — it was about creating an experience, something that could hold its own with the best of them.

As for the bar crawl itself, let’s just say Jason’s charm matches his cool factor. Alongside his security team and his girlfriend, actress Adria Arjona, we navigated the event in the kind of relaxed and warm atmosphere that you’d expect from someone who truly loves what they’re doing.

So, would I recommend Meili Vodka? Absolutely. Whether you’re a fan of Jason Momoa or not, the vodka stands on its own as a finely crafted, smooth spirit. And if you happen to be a fan of Jason (who isn’t?), well, let’s just say you’ll get to sip the good stuff with a side of charm.
