Global superstar Jennifer Lopez is known for commanding stages and screens around the world — but her latest emotional confession proves that even the biggest stars can’t escape one of life’s most universal milestones: watching your kids grow up and leave home.
The 56-year-old singer, actress, and producer shared a heartfelt update about her 17-year-old twins, Max and Emme, whom she shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony, during an appearance on Live With Kelly and Mark on October 6.
“It’s crazy. We’re visiting a college today,” Lopez revealed. “It’s happening. They’re leaving. They’re going.”
A Mother’s Mixed Emotions
As her twins prepare to take their next steps into adulthood, Lopez admitted she’s feeling a blend of pride and sadness — emotions familiar to many parents facing an empty nest.
“I’m happy because I remember how exciting that time of my life was,” she said. “You’re figuring out what you want to do, and it’s such an adventure. I want that for them. But I also think, ‘Oh, I’m going to be by myself.’”
Lopez added that while she has “an inkling” she’ll eventually enjoy the quiet, her priority has always been creating a home her children will want to return to.
“Since they were born, I always said whatever we create, it has to be something they’ll always feel is home,” she shared. “It should smell like home, taste like home — all of it. I focused on that, and I feel like we’ve created it.”
Family First
Following her divorce from Ben Affleck earlier this year, Lopez says she’s leaned on her twins more than ever — and that their bond has only deepened through life’s changes.
“We’re close. We’re a close-knit three,” she said. “We’ve been through a lot together, and that’s made our relationship even more beautiful.”
The singer’s candid reflection struck a chord with fans around the world, many of whom praised her openness about parenthood and transition. One fan wrote online, “Jennifer Lopez being emotional about her kids leaving home makes her so relatable. Every mom feels that.”
A Family That Loves the Stage
Beyond their tight family bond, Lopez and her twins share another love — musical theatre. Speaking on CBS News Sunday Morning last month, Lopez described how attending Broadway shows and supporting her children’s stage performances has become one of her greatest joys.
“I take my kids to see as many shows as I can,” she said. “They love musicals. I have a musical theatre kid right now, and I’m living my best life.”
She added, “They go away for theatre camp and perform in all the shows. I get to watch them shine — and it’s fantastic.”
“The Best Kind of Goodbye”
For Lopez, the bittersweet reality of her twins preparing for college is both a challenge and a celebration.
“It’s the best kind of goodbye,” she reflected. “They’re ready for their next chapter, and I’m proud. I just hope they always know they can come home — no matter where life takes them.”
From global tours to quiet family dinners, Jennifer Lopez’s latest chapter reminds fans that no amount of fame replaces the simple, enduring power of family — and the unconditional love between a mother and her children.
