When the Black Eyed Peas announced their highly anticipated reunion tour, fans around the world eagerly hoped to see the original lineup complete once again — including the iconic Fergie. After more than a decade since her last performance with will.i.am, apl.de.ap, and Taboo, the prospect of the foursome reuniting seemed within reach. But when Fergie’s absence was confirmed, disappointment swept through the fanbase. Now, she has spoken out about her decision to step away.
“I had to choose peace over pressure,” Fergie shared in a rare and heartfelt interview.
A Journey of Fame and Finding Herself
It’s been twelve years since Fergie last performed with the group, following the success of The Beginning (2010), the album that followed their massive hit record The E.N.D. — which gifted fans timeless anthems like “Boom Boom Pow,” “I Gotta Feeling,” and “Meet Me Halfway.” Fergie’s powerful vocals and dynamic energy helped define an era of pop and dance music.
Yet, beneath the glittering success, Fergie admits the toll of life on the road and in the spotlight caught up with her.
“It was a beautiful ride — but I lost myself somewhere along the way,” she reflected. “Being on the road, always performing, always giving — I realized I was running on fumes. I needed to find me again.”
Choosing a New Path
Her decision to step back from the Black Eyed Peas wasn’t made lightly. Since then, Fergie has focused on motherhood, her solo music career, and crafting a life that feels “balanced and whole.” Her 2017 album Double Dutchess marked a bold, personal departure — an expression of artistic freedom beyond the pop machine that once shaped her.
Despite stepping away from the group, Fergie insists there’s no bitterness or conflict.
“Those guys are my brothers,” she said warmly. “We’ve shared dreams, flights, laughter, everything. But sometimes love means stepping back. I cheer them on, always.”
Fans and Bandmates Respond
Fans have been vocal on social media, many pleading for her to rejoin the reunion, describing it as “incomplete without Fergie.” Even will.i.am has echoed this sentiment, telling Billboard recently, “Fergie is family. She’s on her journey, and we respect that. The door’s always open.”
Whether Fergie will return remains unknown. For now, she seems content embracing peace and watching from the sidelines, celebrating the legacy she helped create.
“Sometimes,” she said with a smile, “the best reunion is the one you have with yourself.”
Ultimately, Fergie’s choice is less about leaving behind a chapter and more about coming home to herself.
