Kansas City Chiefs’ star tight end Travis Kelce is postponing retirement for at least one more season, but he’s already looking forward to a major event in his post-NFL life. On the latest episode of his New Heights podcast, Kelce gave a heartfelt shoutout to Brittany Mahomes, wife of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, for her role in securing Kansas City as a host city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Kelce’s Retirement Decision

After a stellar 2024 season, the three-time Super Bowl champion and future Hall of Famer admitted he contemplated retirement during the offseason. “It was definitely on my mind,” Kelce shared. “I took some time to reflect, but I’m not ready to walk away just yet.”

Kelce, widely regarded as one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history, decided to return for the 2025 season, much to the delight of Chiefs Kingdom. His on-field chemistry with Patrick Mahomes has been a cornerstone of Kansas City’s dynasty, and their off-field friendship is just as strong. Together, they’ve redefined what it means to dominate at their positions, and Kelce’s return ensures at least one more chapter in their storied partnership.Travis Kelce's emotional rookie moment resurfaces as Chiefs honor 12 years of greatness | NFL News - The Times of India

A World Cup Dream

While Kelce’s focus remains on the gridiron, he’s already excited about a bucket-list event coming to Kansas City: the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The United States will co-host the tournament with Canada and Mexico, and Kansas City’s selection as a host city is a major coup for the region.

“I’ve never been to a World Cup, and it’s definitely on my list,” Kelce said on New Heights, co-hosted with his brother, former NFL center Jason Kelce. “In 2026, Kansas City, Missouri, baby—let’s go!”

Kelce credited Brittany Mahomes, a former collegiate soccer player and co-owner of the Kansas City Current, for helping bring the global event to Arrowhead Stadium. “Shoutout to Brittany Mahomes and the Hunt family for making this happen,” he added. “For a Midwest city like ours to host the World Cup? That’s huge.”

Jason Kelce, who attended the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, chimed in, noting the significance of Kansas City’s infrastructure, including stadiums owned by the Hunt family and Brittany Mahomes’ contributions to the city’s soccer scene.

Brittany Mahomes’ Soccer Legacy

Brittany Mahomes’ passion for soccer has been a driving force in elevating Kansas City’s status in the sport. As a former player and a key figure in the National Women’s Soccer League, her advocacy helped secure Kansas City as a World Cup host. Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Chiefs, will undergo renovations to meet FIFA’s standards, promising an unforgettable experience for fans.

“Brittany’s love for soccer and her work with the Kansas City Current made this possible,” said Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt in a recent statement. “We’re thrilled to showcase Kansas City to the world.”

What’s Next for Kelce and the Chiefs?

As Kelce gears up for the 2025 season, he remains a fan favorite and a critical piece of Kansas City’s offense. His 2024 stats—92 receptions, 1,103 yards, and 10 touchdowns—prove he’s still at the top of his game. With Mahomes under center, the Chiefs are once again favorites to make a deep playoff run.

Off the field, Kelce’s excitement for the World Cup reflects his deep connection to Kansas City. Whether he’s catching passes or cheering on soccer’s biggest stars, Kelce’s presence continues to elevate the city’s profile.
