After a dominant 12-year career wreaking havoc on NFL offenses, Fletcher Cox is taking his competitive fire somewhere unexpected: the dragstrip. The six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle, who retired from the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024, is now gearing up for his professional debut in the high-speed world of drag racing — and fans can hardly believe it.
Cox will make his first official appearance in the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) at the Mid-Atlantic Showdown presented by Classic Graphix, held April 30–May 2, 2025, at Virginia Motorsports Park. He’ll be behind the wheel of a blistering Pro Nitrous Camaro, racing under the banner of his own team, Cox Motorsports.
“Racing has always been a passion of mine,” Cox said. “The Pro Nitrous class is no joke, but I’ve got a great team behind me, and we’re ready to learn and compete.”
This leap into motorsports isn’t as sudden as it seems. Cox has been a longtime drag racing enthusiast, often spotted at tracks during his offseasons. Over the past year, he’s been quietly sharpening his skills with extensive testing sessions, working closely with veteran tuner Brandon Switzer to prepare for the fierce level of competition that awaits.
The Pro Nitrous class is among the PDRA’s most thrilling categories, featuring nitrous-assisted muscle machines roaring down the eighth-mile in seconds. For Cox, it’s a bold move — not only stepping into a brutally competitive arena but doing so with the weight of NFL fame and fan expectations riding shotgun.
PDRA Race Director Bob Harris welcomed Cox with open arms, saying, “His energy and competitive spirit will be a great addition to the series, and we can’t wait to see him light up the track.”
Cox’s debut is expected to draw major crowds, bringing fresh attention to PDRA and underscoring a growing trend of professional athletes crossing into motorsports. It’s a second act filled with speed, adrenaline, and a familiar drive to win — only now, it’s measured in quarter-miles instead of tackles.
The Mid-Atlantic Showdown will be streamed live on FloRacing starting April 30, offering fans everywhere a chance to watch Fletcher Cox’s next big chapter unfold — one roaring pass at a time.
