Isaiah Simmons, the former eighth-overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, has made it clear: he only wants to join the Green Bay Packers. The news, reported on April 28, 2025, comes after Simmons’ visit to Green Bay two weeks ago, sparking excitement among some fans. Known for his versatility as a linebacker and safety, Simmons brings a career stat line of 8.5 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, and five interceptions across five NFL seasons, plus valuable special teams experience.

However, not everyone in Green Bay is sold on the idea. Head Coach Matt LaFleur expressed a mixed reaction, stating, “He’s got the tools, but I’m not sure if he’s the right piece for our defense. We need guys who can stop the run consistently.” LaFleur’s hesitation stems from Simmons’ known weakness in run defense, a critical need in Jeff Hafley’s 4-3 system, especially after losing Eric Wilson to the Vikings.

Fan reactions are equally divided. On X, some Packers supporters are thrilled at the prospect of Simmons joining, citing his playmaking ability and special teams potential as a perfect fit to replace Wilson’s snaps. “Simmons could be a steal for us! His versatility is what we need,” one fan posted. Others, however, share LaFleur’s doubts, pointing to Simmons’ inconsistent NFL tenure. “He’s a bust for a first-rounder. We need reliability, not a project,” another fan argued.

The Packers have added depth with hybrid edge/linebacker Collin Oliver in the draft, but their linebacker room still has gaps. Simmons’ potential signing could address this, but his fit remains uncertain. As negotiations continue, all eyes are on Green Bay to see if Simmons can win over LaFleur and prove his worth in the Packers’ defense.
