Jerome Carvin, a Knoxville native and South Doyle High School standout, has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent following the 2025 NFL Draft, held on April 27, 2025, in Green Bay. The 6-foot-6, 305-pound offensive tackle, who played college football at Tennessee, announced the news on X, sparking excitement among Chiefs and Vols fans. Carvin started 43 of 60 games for the Volunteers, allowing just 3 sacks in 1,200 snaps, per Pro Football Focus, and now aims to protect Patrick Mahomes.

Carvin’s high school career at South Doyle earned him all-state honors, showcasing his dominance in run-blocking and pass protection. At Tennessee, he developed into a reliable lineman, with versatility to play guard—a trait the Chiefs value after drafting Kingsley Suamataia in 2024. However, his slower foot speed has raised concerns about his ability to handle NFL edge rushers, a weakness exposed in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIX loss to the Eagles.

Head Coach Andy Reid commented, “Jerome’s got the size and toughness, but he’ll need to get quicker to make it here.” Carvin joins a competitive offensive line room with Jawaan Taylor and Lucas Niang, and his roster spot is far from guaranteed. His ability to contribute on special teams and adapt to the NFL’s speed will be crucial during rookie minicamp and OTAs, starting May 20, 2025.

Knoxville fans are buzzing, with many on X calling him “a hometown hero with a chip on his shoulder.” Others caution that his lack of elite athleticism might limit his role. As the Chiefs aim to reclaim the Super Bowl in 2025, Carvin’s journey from South Doyle to Kansas City will be one to watch.
